In a region as vast and varied as Southeast Asia, knowing where to start is half the battle. Perhaps a cruise through the dramatic rock formations of Halong Bay? A truly off-the-beaten path trip to Luang Prabang in Laos? A tour of the UNESCO World Heritage sites near Angkor Wat and Siem Reap? Or a secluded getaway on a private island off the coast of Southern Cambodia?
With this itinerary, you don’t have to choose. We’ve put together a trip that hits the most iconic sights of Vietnam and Cambodia, but also takes you to some unique places that few travelers will ever get the chance to visit.

This journey features a collection of premium boutique hotels throughout the trip:

Set in the heart of Hanoi's French Quarter, the Sofitel Legend Metropole is one of Southeast Asia's most iconic historic hotels. Opened in 1901, the hotel blends French colonial elegance with modern luxury, featuring beautifully designed rooms, a peaceful courtyard pool, multiple bars and restaurants, and a spa. Guests over the decades have included Charlie Chaplin and Graham Greene. The location is ideal, just steps from the Opera House and within walking distance of the Old Quarter, making it the perfect base to begin our time in Vietnam.

There is no better way to experience Halong Bay than from the deck of a luxury cruise ship, and the Grand Pioneers is one of the finest on the water. Launched in 2023, it's one of the newest and most sophisticated vessels in the bay. The Ocean Suites are a generous 40 square meters with floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies that put the limestone karsts front and center from the moment you wake up. On board you'll find a pool, spa, sky bar, elegant dining room, and enough lounge space that it genuinely feels less like a cruise ship and more like a floating boutique hotel. The bay does the rest.

Located just outside the historic center, Sofitel Luang Prabang is a peaceful resort set within beautifully restored French colonial buildings. The property feels quiet and secluded, with lush gardens, a large pool, spa, and open-air restaurant. Rooms are spacious and designed in a colonial-meets-Laos style, and many feature private gardens or outdoor soaking tubs, making this one of the most relaxing and charming stays of the trip.

Originally the legendary Hotel de la Paix, the Park Hyatt Siem Reap was redesigned by acclaimed architect Bill Bensley and reopened in 2013. To this day, it remains the gold standard for luxury in the city. Rooms start at a generous 35 square meters and are beautifully appointed with Italian marble bathrooms, Khmer-inspired artwork, wooden floors, and deep soaking tubs. Two pools, a full spa, excellent restaurants, and a Living Room lounge that's a genuine social hub round out the experience. It's right in the heart of Siem Reap, walkable to the markets and nightlife, and a short tuk-tuk ride from Angkor Wat. After long days in the heat exploring the temples, coming back to this place feels like a reward.

There are few better ways to end a trip than on a private island, and Six Senses Krabey Island is about as good as it gets. Opened in 2019 on a lush 30-acre island a 15-minute speedboat ride from the Cambodian coast, the resort features 40 standalone villas, each with its own private pool. The Ocean Pool Villa Suites are 111 square meters of floor-to-ceiling glass, private infinity pool, sundeck, deep soaking tub, and sweeping ocean views. Two restaurants serving fresh Khmer cuisine, a world-class spa, an open-air cinema, a sky observatory, and a genuine commitment to sustainability round out the experience.
